Home Interior Trend for 2016 – Pantone Colours of the Year

Pantone Colour of the Year 2016First of all, Happy New Year to everyone from the Polyflor at Home team!

To get 2016 off to a stylish start, we’re taking a closer look at the Pantone Colour of the Year – which this year is the blending of two soft and beautiful shades, pale pink Rose Quartz and Serenity, a calming purple toned blue.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director and the Pantone Colour Institute, comments on this year’s choice of colours, “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of peace and order.”

The Pantone Colour of the Year is often a great indication of trends to come, which was true of 2015’s chosen shade, the earthy red-brown Marsala hue. These colours reflect a trend for calmer and more airy tones emerging in 2016, which are ideal for home interiors as an antidote to the stresses of everyday life.

The key to using pastels in the home is to keep them fresh and current rather than too sweet. Wood effect flooring works particularly well with pale, pastel tones such as Rose Quartz and Serenity as it adds warmth to a room. However for a modern modern look, a white wood effect floor would also help to create a light and airy atmosphere.

Light stone effect luxury vinyl tiles also perfectly complement pastel shades for a soft and feminine look. Remember that you can add extra impact to your stone effect floor design by using feature strips or grouting strips in between tiles.

Don’t forget you can also add these new pastel shades to your home simply using a few carefully chosen accessories. Here’s a selection we’ve found online which will help you embrace 2016’s hottest colour trend.

Whether you prefer stripes or floral patterns, you can mix or match pastel cushions on your sofa as a quick and inexpensive way of incorporating the Pantone shades into your living space.

Pairing the pale pink Rose Quartz shade with grey in this bang on-trend geometric rug makes it grown up and modern (up to 70% Off in the Blue Cross Sale In-Store and Online).

For another take on the geometric trend but in the Serenity shade, we found this great statement wallpaper from John Lewis. It may be pricey but has such impact that you you could use it to create a feature wall instead of decorating a whole room.

Bring holiday destinations to your home

With the winter blues setting in after the excitement of Christmas and New Year, everyone is dreaming of sunshine and thinking about where they are going to jet to for their holidays in 2016.

Using vinyl flooring from our Polyflor at Home ranges and some carefully chosen accessories, you can bring a taste of your favourite holiday destination to your own home.

Here’s a couple of inspirational ideas to try…

Modern City Break

Camaro Loc Grey Mountain Ash

Camaro Loc Grey Mountain Ash

If you dream of living the high life in a bustling city like New York or Paris, then it is easy to recreate the look of those stylish city apartments in your own home with some interior design know-how.

Flooring in grey woods or polished stone effects will give you the on trend look you need for creating the perfect urban home. You could start with Camaro Loc interlocking luxury vinyl tile flooring in Grey Mountain Ash as a starting point for creating your cool palette.

To add the finishing touches to your city inspired living space you could stick to a monochrome colour scheme, invest in some unusual artwork and put your fashion magazines on display rather than hiding them in a rack.

Designatex Manhattan Limestone (left) and Barça Limestone (right)

Designatex Manhattan Limestone (left) and Barça Limestone (right)

When the Polyflor at Home team are tasked with coming up with names for our latest products, we are often inspired by some of our favourite destinations – Manhattan Limestone and Barça Limestone from our Designatex range for example. These contemporary designs create the effect of slim stone tiles in a sheet vinyl floorcovering, which are ideal for smaller spaces and recreating the look of a modern city apartment.

Traditional Country Retreat

Camaro North American Walnut

Camaro North American Walnut

If you are planning on staying on home turf for your holiday this year, take inspiration from quaint cottages and grand country manors in the UK for your home makeover.

Rich, dark woods like Camaro North American Walnut and Country Teak are ideal choices for injecting a sense of history, character and warmth into your home.

Camaro Country Teak

Camaro Country Teak

Our Country Teak design features authentic grain detail and markings to create an aged effect which looks really striking when paired with traditional or vintage home accessories.

By the Seaside

Camaro Loc Hickory Oak

Camaro Loc Hickory Oak

If you are an outdoors type whose ideal holiday is taking in some sea air, going for walks along the beach and trying your hand at some water sports, then why not recreate the coastal look in your living space.

Designatex Cornish Oak (left) and California Oak (right)

Designatex Cornish Oak (left) and California Oak (right)

To achieve this beach home feel, look out for traditional oak effect flooring with fresh, sun bleached tones. Our Designatex Cornish Oak and California Oak designs give the effect of reclaimed coastal timber that has been exposed to the elements.

A Place in the Sun

For those who crave sunshine and heat from their holiday destination, a home that takes design influences from the Mediterranean could help combat the winter blues.

With stone being a preferred flooring choice for warmer climates as it is naturally cool, our vinyl versions give the same effect without being cold underfoot, which is useful when the weather isn’t so beautiful!

Colonia Quarried Millstone with Maple marquetry strip (left) and Camaro Serpentine with Gold feature strip (right)

Colonia Quarried Millstone with Maple marquetry strip (left) and Camaro Serpentine with Gold feature strip (right)

Get creative with inlay strips and tile layouts for a unique stone effect floor design – we love the use of the gold feature strip with our Camaro Serpentine LVT for a luxurious and exotic look.

Named after Italian holiday hot spots, Tuscan Paving and Sicilian Oak flooring from our Designatex range feature golden, taupe and beige tones to add that sun kissed feel to your home.

Create your own bespoke floor with Polyflor at home

The beauty of using luxury vinyl tiles in the home is that you can create an eye-catching flooring design that is truly unique to you and fits in with your personal style.

For creating more ambitious and intricate design floors, Polyflor’s experienced team of design specialists are on hand to cut tiles into different shapes and sizes using waterjet cutting technology. This method uses a high-pressure stream of water 0.1mm thick to cut through luxury vinyl tiles with exact precision.

These six designs are taken from our Camaro Creative Edge brochure which showcases some of the amazing design floors that can be created with Camaro luxury vinyl tiles, a little imagination and waterjet cutting technology. The brochure includes designs using whole planks laid in different patterns, designs where tiles require a straight cut, and more complicated designs which require bespoke waterjet cutting from our in-house Design department like those below.

With each new collection we launch, Polyflor at Home offers a wide range of traditional and contemporary designs to suit any home interiors, but on occasion our customers fall in love with a floor design from one of our commercial luxury vinyl tile collections and wish to use it in their home.

Although these high performance products have been developed with commercial interiors in mind, such as offices, leisure facilities and retail stores, there is no reason why these floorcoverings can’t be used in the home. Collections including Expona Design and Expona Commercial luxury vinyl tiles, Bevel Line luxury vinyl tiles with bevelled edges, Affinity255 2mm gauge luxury vinyl tiles and Expona SimpLay loose lay tiles which require no adhesive, altogether offer over 150 wood, stone and abstract effect designs to choose from. It is worth noting that these products include a variety of larger format tiles and planks, so are perhaps better suited to larger open-plan spaces in the home.

To order free product samples from any of our commercial LVT ranges then please visit the Polyflor website.

Monochrome in the Home

The bold pairing of black and white is a classic colour combination that is always in style, making it an ideal choice for a sleek and sophisticated interior design scheme.

Flooring is a great place to start when using the dynamic duo of black and white to create a striking monochrome look in the home. The luxury vinyl tile and sheet ranges in our Polyflor at Home collection offer stunning wood and stone effect designs in both black and white hues – use the View by Shade function on our website to browse and order free samples.

Colonia Nordic White Oak

Colonia Nordic White Oak

It is important to strike the right balance between light and dark when creating your monochrome space, too much black can sometimes make a room feel dark and confined, whilst too much white can look cold and bare. For example, a black floor brings dramatic impact when offset against contrasting clean white walls and modern furniture. Keep the rest of your décor simple to create a minimalist style living space.

Our black stone effect Camaro and Colonia LVT designs look fantastic when paired with a crisp white or grey grouting strip (see below). We love the simplicity of the pure white tiles in this bathroom, whilst the printed wallpaper in this dining room adds a polished, retro style.

The Noir Slate design from our Designatex collection is another great choice if you are looking to achieve a graphic, monochrome look. This design is available in a sheet format for a fuss free installation.

Designatex Noir Slate

Designatex Noir Slate

A strong monochrome colour scheme can look very stark, to soften this style simply add grey tones, prints or textures. Adding a strong accent colour or metallic shade can look particularly eye-catching against a black and white backdrop. The red wall in this kitchen perfectly complements the chequerboard design floor created using Camaro luxury vinyl tiles.

Camaro luxury vinyl tiles in Travertine

Camaro luxury vinyl tiles in Travertine

When it comes to choosing a practical floorcovering for your home, it’s important to consider the needs of your furry family members before making a new investment

Polyflor vinyl flooring is the ideal choice when creating a pet-friendly home interior as it is affordable, easy to clean and comes in a wide variety of stunning designs.

Whilst real stone can be too cold for sensitive paws and a hardwood floor can be noisy when claws are clicking across the hard surface, vinyl flooring is quiet and comfortable underfoot, providing enough traction to prevent pets from slipping around.

Secura in Ebony

Secura in Ebony

Our Camaro, Colonia, Designatex and Secura flooring products feature our exclusive Polyflor polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) which protects the floor against everyday wear and also means that it is very easy to clean in comparison to other types of flooring. Something which is not to be underestimated if you are puppy training!

Designatex in Platinum Oak

Here’s a few tips for keeping your vinyl flooring in top condition with pets in the home…

  • Keep pets nails trimmed.
  • Use doormats at entrances to collect dirt and debris, especially useful after long muddy walks!
  • Place a protective mat underneath any pet food and water bowls to catch any spillages.
  • Clean up any spillages or “accidents” as quickly as possible to reduce risk of staining.

Launched in 2015, the Affinity255 collection of heavy commercial luxury vinyl tiles features 16 stunning wood effect designs in a 2mm gauge format. Originally designed for use in commercial areas in the retail, leisure and office sectors amongst others, we’ve found that the Affinity255 range has also proved to be a real hit as a flooring product for the home.

Many of our flooring contractor followers on Twitter have been sending in photos of Affinity255 looking fantastic in customers’ homes. The inspirational designs on offer in the collection have obviously caught people’s attention!

There’s no reason why commercial LVT can’t be used in domestic environments and other ranges such as Bevel Line, Expona Design and Commercial luxury vinyl tiles are also often installed in the home (read our blog).

Visit the Polyflor website to order samples from the Affinity255 range and view the brochure.

Left: Bianco Oak – Middle: Boathouse Oak – Right: Midnight Ash

If you are looking for a modern contemporary flooring solution, or a neutral base for your home furnishings and fabrics, the white crisp look of Bianco Oak, the cool grey tones in Boathouse Oak or the deep dark features of Midnight Ash are sure to look stunning in your home.

woods 2.jpg

Left: Cashmere Oak – Middle: Quayside Oak – Right: Salvaged Timber

If your taste is more traditional, these three wood designs are perfect for pairing with modern or traditional furnishings. Inspired by the Nordic shores, Cashmere Oak will provide a calming feel, whilst the blonde cool tones in Quayside Oak are both sophisticated and elegant. For a reclaimed finish, Salvaged Timber uses diverse tones and different plank sizes to create a recycled wood effect.

woods 3.jpg

Left: Sienna Oak laid in Full Plank Chevron – Right: Wild Amber Oak

Sienna Oak has a smooth, timeless appeal that looks great laid simply or in more intricate designs for a striking effect, whilstthe rustic cracks and amber brown tones in Wild Amber Oak provide more texture and movement.

parquets.jpg

Left: Cambridge Parquet laid in Tramline Parquet – Right: Georgian Parquet laid in Parquet Herringbone

Perhaps the most eye-catching designs of the new Camaro collection, these Parquet designs are both rich with history and will give a luxurious feel to any home. Try Cambridge Parquet for a more modern appearance or choose Georgian Parquet, with its warm heritage red tones.

concretes.jpg

Left: Smokes and Brushed Concrete laid in chequerboard – Right: Organic Concrete

If you prefer industrial materials in your home, the new Camaro collection also now includes three new concrete designs. Each of these designs replicate the look of poured concrete with a fine surface texture for further authenticity. Burnished Concrete has the cool grey look of traditional concrete, , Organic Concrete introduces earthy, clay tones whilst Smoked Concrete replicates the appearance of cindered concrete with its dusty grey undertones.

slates.jpg

Left: Glacier Slate – Middle: Highland Slate – Right: Arctic Slate

Slate designs have been used in home interiors for years and continue to be popular, so we have added three new slate designs to the Camaro collection, in a brand new format. Introducing a new slimmer slate tile, Glacier Slate and Highland Slate offer traditional cool grey and white hues in a modern shape.  The crisp white shades in Arctic Slate provide a striking finish, suited to both traditional or contemporary home interiors.

The Only Way is Parquet

Parquet flooring refers to the traditional design where small blocks of wood (or wood effect vinyl tiles) are laid in a geometric pattern to create a stunning, luxurious effect. The design dates back to the 1600s and is still as popular as ever. Instantly recognisable and often referred to as mosaic, parquet flooring is a perfect way to add an expensive feel to any room.

Real wooden parquet flooring requires a big budget and regular maintenance, but luckily, Polyflor at Home’s vinyl alternative require none of those things. Easy to clean, much cheaper than real hardwood and coming with a 10 year guarantee, the new Camaro range is the perfect solution for those that want the enticing design of parquet flooring without the extra cost.

The new Camaro range features two wood effects specifically designed to flourish in when used in a parquet design, let’s take a closer look at the two:

Cambridge Parquet 2251 laid in Tramline

Cambridge Parquet 2251 laid in Tramline

So what makes Cambridge & Georgian parquet different to the other designs in the collection?

  • Tiles are provided in a smaller size, meaning less cutting for the flooring-contractor and reducing install time
  • Include a micro bevel to make them look more authentic, imitating real wood
  • Parquet is available in three designs; Woodblock, Parquet Herringbone and Parquet Tramline

Share your parquet designs with us by tweeting @polyflorathome for a chance at featuring on our blog, we will retweet the best ones!

On-trend Concretes stand out in new Camaro collection

Concrete is often seen as a plain, industrial and not very appealing material and it is easy to see why. Predominantly used in building sites, often over large outdoor areas covered in dirt and muddy footprints – we wouldn’t blame you for thinking this way!

When it comes to interior design however, concrete is the latest big trend and can look stunning when used correctly. We are obviously not saying that you should give your local tradesman a call and ask him to fill up your living room with concrete! Instead, take a look at the three concrete designs that feature in our latest Camaro luxury vinyl tile collection. Smoked, Burnished and Organic Concrete are three brand new LVT designs that are guaranteed to look great in any interior design scheme.

Whether decorating your living room, bedroom or bathroom, rest assure that by choosing Camaro LVT you will be selecting a floor that is easy to clean, easy to install and comes with a 10 year guarantee.

Unlike real concrete, luxury vinyl tiles are warm and comfortable underfoot and help reduce impact sound. These designs look great when laid on their own, but have a look at what you can achieve when laying them side by side. Check out this example of our hexagon design combining all three shades for a truly magnificent result.

Feel free to tweet us any of your concrete designs and be sure to follow our Pinterest for more inspiration.
